It's no surprise to most people, from business majors to artists, that good design has a huge impact on what people buy. I've been preaching this for two years at The Xaverian, where our redesigns have all been focused on creating creative and captivating layouts that support (and encourage people to actually read) the quality content.
Outside of the music industry, I think alcohol-label design is one of the most important places where this can be applied. Unless you are a total wino and know exactly what you're looking for, you have to admit that the label and bottle design comes into play when you pick up your weekly bottle of whatever.
A bottle of wine could be $6 and I will pass it up if it's selling itself as a "girls night out" wine. I do not want shoes, dresses or purses to make an appearance on my wine, much as I do not want wine to make an appearance on my shoes, dresses or purse.
While there are lots of amazing labels out there, this one really caught my eye. It's a Mourvèdre from Les Jamelles, and the designers hit the nail on the head with this one. I absolutely love the typefaces they use, they go perfectly together. The whole effect is whimsical, old-fashioned and perfectly French.
The wine is also awesome. It's a grape variety I had never had, but it's easy to drink and goes well with steak... or a little black dress.
You can visit their site here: http://www.les-jamelles.com/en/ The only catch is they have a weird cricket/buzzing noise that plays automatically when you open the website. Most.irritating.thing.ever.
